George Nelson (1908 - 1986) is considered one of the founders of American modernism. He contributed to the beginning of modern design with a human dimension. Renowned for his collaborations with brands such as Vitra and Herman Miller, he has created several products that are now considered to be icons of mid-20th-century modernism. Designed in 1946, the Nelson Bench is entirely made of lacquered solid ash. The openwork seat is made of ash slats. With its formal language of clear, straight lines, it reflects George Nelson's architectural background. It can be used as a bench to sit on, as well as a low console for storage and display.
