Designed by Charlotte Perriand, the Ombra Tokyo Chair was first exhibited in Japan in 1953 at the Synthèse des Arts exhibition. The extremely slim seat was an unprecedented innovation at the time. Inspired by Japanese tradition and origami, the Ombra Tokyo Chair is made from a single piece of Plywood that takes shape through subtle folding.
The sinuous, stackable, light and functional structure embodies the perfect synthesis of gesture, form and technique, becoming a pure expression of the author's spirit. The construction technique used by Cassina shapes the material while respecting the original design and its timeless personality.
The Ombra Tokyo Chair is meticulously crafted by experienced artisans, embodying the excellence of Italian craftsmanship. High-quality materials give this piece of furniture unrivalled durability and beauty. Cassina's perfectionist craftsmanship contributes to the myth of these iconic pieces of furniture that will accompany the lives of generations.
Cassina's original Charlotte Perriand furniture can be identified by the control of three pieces of information that guarantee its authenticity: the author's signature in the form of a mark, the Cassina logo ''I Maestri'', the identification number, present on every piece produced.
