With Panton Cubes Giraffe, Verner Panton transforms a series of cubes into a striking animal silhouette. Designed in 1974 and now reissued by Vitra, this kit lets you build your own giraffe using cubic frames and snap-together boards. Its two-tone version combines two shades of purple that add rhythm to the geometric design and highlight its long neck. Made from Recycled ABS sourced from production scraps, the Sculpture measures 54 cm wide, 18 cm deep, and 90 cm tall.

The Cube According to Verner Panton

More than just a static sculpture, Panton Cubes is based on a construction principle. Verner Panton starts with a basic shape—the cube—which he repeats and combines to create a wide variety of figures. Dating from 1974, this system illustrates the designer’s exploration of modular forms capable of giving rise to animal, abstract, or purely graphic compositions.

Vitra is now reissuing the concept in collaboration with Verner Panton Design AG. The collection features four figures: the cat, the duck, the flamingo, and the giraffe. Each model is available in a two-tone or Chromed finish. At 90 cm tall, the giraffe is the largest in the collection. Its two shades of purple emphasize the graphic structure of this particularly vertical silhouette.

Assemble, disassemble, reinvent

Assembly is an integral part of the experience. The cubic frames are connected by small clips, then completed with boards that cover the selected sides. No tools are required. The structure can also be easily disassembled, allowing you to recreate the giraffe or use the components to design a different composition.

The frames, clips, and boards are made from post-industrial recycled ABS derived from production scraps. The material preserves the clean lines and precise volumes that give the geometric system designed by Panton its full impact.

Do you have to assemble the Panton Cubes Giraffe yourself?

Yes. The Panton Cubes Giraffe is delivered as a DIY kit that requires no tools. It contains the exact number of cubes needed to fully assemble the giraffe. Since the pieces snap together and can be taken apart, you can later rearrange them to experiment with other configurations.

Are Panton Cubes child’s toys?

No. Panton Cubes are decorative objects, not toys. Vitra specifies that they should not be left within reach of children without supervision. Their assembly system and the size of the pieces make the collection intended for decorative use.
