A legend born in 1965
Designed in 1965 by Gae Aulenti, the Pipistrello represents a turning point in the history of Italian design. With its undulating Lampshade inspired by a bat - pipistrello in Italian - and its original telescopic Base, it broke with the modernist rigor of the time. In entrusting Martinelli Luce with the design, Aulenti initiated a collaboration as ambitious as it was visionary. It took two years of fine-tuning to bring this revolutionary Lamp to life, which was presented at MoMA in 1972.
A Mat white finish, between purity and materiality
This edition features an exclusive Mat white finish, with a velvety, powdery feel.Painted aluminium blends withsatin-finish steel to create an object of great formal rigour. The white satin-finished methacrylate diffuser provides even, controlled lighting, while retaining the poetic elegance of its original curves.

The Pipistrello LED adapts flexibly to different uses, thanks to its telescopic Base, legs (66 to 86 cm) and integrated Dimmer. Its replaceable LED source (14W, 1400 lm, 2700 K) ensures long life (50,000 hours) and ideal lighting comfort, whether on a desk, console or reading corner.
A luminous masterpiece of international renown
Now a symbol of Italian design, the Pipistrello is included in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Centre Pompidou and the Victoria and Albert Museum. It embodies the legacy of Gae Aulenti, who was awarded the Praemium Imperiale in 1991. More than a luminaire, it's a work of art, a collector's item that spans the decades with the same intensity.
