Nessino Artemide, the iconic Mushroom Lamp

The Nessino Artemide lamp is an iconic mushroom-shaped lamp of Italian design, directly inspired by the famous Nesso designed by Giancarlo Mattioli and the Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova. More compact than its predecessor, this designer table lamp retains its instantly recognizable organic silhouette: a flared central base topped by a wide, rounded shade.

In its green finish, the green Nessino offers a fresh and contemporary take on this icon. Its color highlights its organic curves while adding a graphic touch to the decor. Both a light fixture and a decorative object, this green mushroom lamp asserts its personality without losing the pop and sculptural spirit that characterizes Nessino.

When Industrial Innovation Becomes a Design Icon

Launched by Artemide in 2003, Nessino reinterprets the Nesso —created in 1967 by Giancarlo Mattioli and the Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova—in a compact format. The original design emerged at a time when injection-molded plastic was opening up new possibilities for designers.

With its corolla-shaped shade and flared central base, Nessino carries on this legacy of Italian design. Its mushroom shape and organic lines have stood the test of time without losing their uniqueness. This iconic lamp appeals to both vintage decor enthusiasts and fans of contemporary interiors.

Why is the Nessino called the “mushroom lamp”?

The Artemide Nessino lamp is often called the “mushroom lamp” because of its distinctive silhouette. Its flared central base supports a wide, rounded shade that naturally evokes the shape of a mushroom.

Inherited from the Nesso, designed in the 1960s, this organic silhouette has become one of the hallmarks of this Italian design classic. The Nessino is thus among the lamps that best embody the pop and sculptural aesthetic associated with the 1960s and 1970s.

Why buy an original Artemide Nessino lamp?

Choosing an original Artemide Nessino lamp allows you to enjoy the official edition produced by Artemide. The proportions, materials, and finishes remain true to the design that made Nessino a benchmark of Italian design.

The original edition also guarantees Artemide’s craftsmanship and lighting quality suited for everyday use. More than just a Table lamp, Nessino is a true design piece whose silhouette retains all its decorative appeal over the years.

A lamp that’s as decorative as it is functional

Whether on or off, Nessino catches the eye with its soft, sculptural lines. Its shade accommodates four bulbs and produces light that is both direct and diffused, while minimizing glare. When lit, its wide upper section appears to float above the central base, casting an enveloping glow.

This Artemide table lamp fits easily into a living room, bedroom, or office. It can be used as a bedside lamp, desk lamp, or decorative lamp on a console, dresser, or bookcase.

Its green finish particularly highlights its organic shapes. The green Nessino blends seamlessly into contemporary, eclectic, or colorful decoration, but can also add a fresh touch to a more understated interior. Its hue accentuates the silhouette of this mushroom-shaped lamp while maintaining a balanced and elegant presence.

Which Nessino lamp color should you choose?

All versions of the Nessino offer the same performance. The choice of color therefore depends primarily on the desired atmosphere.

• Green: Fresh and graphic, the green Nessino highlights the organic shapes of this mushroom-shaped lamp and adds a contemporary touch to the decor.
• Klein blue and Sky blue: shades that play on graphic intensity and soft luminosity, respectively.
• Orange and Yellow: vibrant colors that fully capture the pop and vintage ’70s spirit of this Italian design icon.
• White and Black: more understated and timeless finishes, easy to incorporate into a contemporary or minimalist interior.
• Red and Ruby Red: expressive shades that accentuate Nessino’s sculptural and decorative character.

Are the bulbs in the Nessino lamp easy to replace?

Yes. Nessino uses four LED bulbs E14 rated at up to 6 W each; bulbs are not included. Unlike a light fixture with built-in LEDs, the bulbs can be replaced individually when they reach the end of their lifespan.

This allows you to keep your lamp longer and choose the color temperature or light intensity that best suits your needs.

Where should you place the Nessino lamp?

With its compact dimensions of Ø 32 × H 22.3 cm, the Artemide Nessino table lamp fits easily on a bedside table, console table, sideboard, bookcase, or small desk.

In a vintage or ’70s-inspired interior, its mushroom-shaped silhouette and green finish reinterpret the pop aesthetic with a more contemporary twist. In a modern setting, the green Nessino adds a colorful, graphic touch that highlights its organic shapes. Its soft light is perfect for moments of relaxation as well as for reading or working.
