"What if we were to modernize the traditional English club armchair? "-this question was the starting point for the Lounge Flesh project. The result: a lighter, more refined and far more comfortable ensemble than classic club armchairs. Behind this apparent simplicity lies a work of engineering of remarkable precision. Charles & Ray Eames experimented for years to develop a revolutionary three-dimensional molding process for Plywood. Their objective: to create a Shell that perfectly follows the curves of the human body, combining flexibility and support.

Exceptional craftsmanship inherited from the Eames

To this day, Vitra perpetuates this heritage with the same exacting standards. Carefully selected natural Cherrywood is often sourced from a single tree to ensure continuity of grain and color. Handcrafted by skilled artisans, each piece is then protected by a water-based satin lacquer, both resistant and respectful of the natural material. The Armchair requires 47 manufacturing steps, the majority of which are carried out by hand according to a precise ritual handed down since 1957.

Vitra has subtly rethought the proportions of the Lounge Flesh & Ottoman to suit contemporary morphologies, without ever altering the balance or beauty of the original model. Each set comes with a five-branch swivel armchair and a fixed four-branch Ottoman, for total harmony between comfort and elegance.
