Valerie Objects, the Belgian publisher that makes everyday life special... This label was founded in 2015 by gallery owner Veerle Wenes (Valerie Traan Gallery in Antwerp) and Axel Van den Bossche, owner of the Serax publishing house. Valerie Objects uses its demanding eye to seek out designers who are in line with its philosophy: Creating everyday objects that can develop emotion and attachment, far from stereotypical decoration, lacking in depth.

The origins of this label lie in an exhibition aptly named "The Fabulous Destiny of Everyday Life", where, in 2010, Veerle Wenes told the story of the fine line between art and design at the MACS in Grand-Hornu, and let the idea emerge that both the artist and the designer, in spite of their differences, can shape our daily lives and the emotions that can arise within it.As this story is close to her heart, the gallery owner wishes to continue on this path by creating the "Cutlery Project", a project based on cutlery in which she asked several designers to develop their dream cutlery. Maarten Baas, Koichi Futatsumata and Muller Van Severen agreed to this flexible reinterpretation of the dressing of a table, and Veerle Wenes contacted Axel Van Den Bossche, director of the Belgian design label Serax, to publish them immediately afterwards. The two enthusiasts soon had the shared ambition to move up a gear by creating a brand in which designers, architects and designers could use their signature through everyday tools that would become exceptional objects.

The label works as an art curator capable of bringing beauty into all of our daily lives. Through her collaborations and creations, Veerle Wenes seeks "the difference to be found" in everyday settings through objects that she imagines as "soul mates”. "You have to keep it simple with a specific character, to create a strong emotional link between the object and the person”, she explains when asked about her vision of design in everyday life.

This link is established first and foremost through carefully selecting artists, designers and architects with whom she shares the same sense of beauty. "Artists whose work is instantly recognisable," she says. These artists do not necessarily have to be well-known, on the contrary, she prefers to work using her instincts, with a gaze that is finely tuned to a universe, a trait, a singularity rather than a recognised name. Valerie Objects is a design label that is seeking emerging talents. Veerle Wenes uses her intuition. ''The designers that interest us are those who have created a strong, recognisable universe. It is also a question of establishing long-term collaborations with them. Axel Van den Bossche and I decide on this together. It's simple, if one of us says no, it's a no! Young designers are in our DNA.”

''All our projects are desired. They must also last over time. The products remain in the collection for a long time. We don't work on trends but with our intuition, our taste... That is the foundation of our brand concept. That's how we have become established over time. The time we are currently living through can make people refocus on their home. Even a glass that we use every day should feel close to us. We chose it because we loved it. Loving it is different from simply using it.''
