Neutra Small Pendant Light: Ferruccio Laviani’s Futuristic Icon Reimagined

Back at Kartell, the Neutra Small pendant reinterprets the futuristic design conceived by Ferruccio Laviani in a 56-cm-diameter format. Its circular silhouette is formed by the layering of two shell-like elements that enclose the light source. This construction gives rise to a very pure, almost lunar shape, whose delicacy contrasts with its graphic presence. The opaline white diffuser appears beneath the dome and distributes light across its entire surface to create ample, even illumination.

Two domes, perfectly controlled light

Neutra’s unique character lies in its interlocking design. The lampshade forms a broad horizontal line, while the internal diffuser filters the light sources. This configuration produces uniform, glare-free light, which is particularly appreciated when the pendant is installed above a table. The new version also features updated materials, with a polycarbonate 2.0 lampshade made from renewable raw materials and a diffuser made from Recycled PMMA.

Can the Neutral Small pendant light serve as the main lighting source for a room?

Yes. With a total luminous flux of 2,418 lumens, the Neutra Small can serve asthe main light source for a room. It is particularly well-suited for a kitchen, living room, or dining room, where its internal diffuser distributes light evenly while minimizing glare. Its three included 5.9 W LED bulbs E14 emit a warm 2,700 K light that is pleasant for everyday use. The bulbs are replaceable, making it easy to maintain the light fixture over time.

Where should you install a 56-cm-diameter pendant?

With its 56 cm diameter and compact height of 15 cm, the Neutra Small fits easily into a variety of spaces. It can be installed above a dining table or kitchen island, or in the center of a living room to define the space and provide its main lighting. Its very horizontal profile creates a strong visual presence without taking up too much space under the ceiling. The adjustable Cable, which extends up to 230 cm, allows you to precisely adjust its height to fit the room’s layout.

Which color should you choose for the Neutra Small pendant light?

Neutra Small is available in Black, White, Burgundy, Forest green, and Mustard yellow, always with a white interior designed to complement the light diffusion. Black accentuates its graphic and futuristic look. White emphasizes discretion and lightness. Burgundy adds more depth, while Forest green and Mustard yellow introduce a more expressive dimension to the decoration. The ceiling rose matches the shade’s color to maintain the visual cohesion of the entire fixture.

Is it easy to adjust the height of the Neutra pendant light?

Yes. The pendant features an adjustable cable up to 230 cm long, as well as a system that allows for precise leveling. This feature makes it easy to install above a table, in the center of a room, or in a space with higher ceilings.

Neutra Small thus combines spectacular design and masterful lighting control in a format that’s easy to integrate. Whether in a kitchen, living room, or dining room, its dome appears to float in space while providing ample light to serve as a true central light source.
