Behind this american editor, which signs and promotes timlessly chic pieces of furniture and accessories, hides the american designer Jonathan Adler. An inspired man whose interest in the world of design started when aged 12 he first layed hands on clay in summer camp… As he starts sudying topics that set him rather far away from his first passion, he continues to work on his ceramist skills in the nearest design school. His pieces were already mixing strong and eclectic influences borrowed from sources as diverse as XVIIIth century French Sèvres ceramics, American pop culture’s icones, contemporary art or the very early vibes of stammering Hip Hop. It will nonetheless not prevent his ceramics teacher form telling him “You have no talent. Move to New-York and become a lawyer.” An advice he will follow at first before realizing he wants to live from his passion and starts giving classes in exchange for a free pottery studio. For three years, Jonathan produces his pieces himself from Monday through Sunday. It is during a trip to Peru that Jonathan will find the perfect workshop to take production over, allowing him to work freely on creation. It is during that same trip that Jonathan will fall in love with South-american textiles and launch his own line of cushions, throws and rugs. Fusing a sensibility for scandinavian furniture with a penchant for the ethnic style of peruvian craftsmanship, his creations quickly become the hottest hits in town. In 1998, Jonathan Adler opens his first shop in the heart of the trendy New-York area of SoHo. To keep fueling his shop with his unique vision, one thing leading to another, Jonathan will slowly open his range to furniture until offering a complete lifestyle universe for the home. Also an interior decorator, Jonathan designs restaurants, hotels and private homes, where one can always recognize his inimitable style, mixing pop colours, historical references and artistic currents.
