Jonathan Adler

Behind this American editor, which signs and promotes timelessly chic pieces of furniture and accessories, hides the American designer Jonathan Adler. An inspired man whose interest in the world of design started when aged 12, he first laid hands on clay in summer camp. As he started studying topics that set him rather far away from his first passion, he continued to work on his ceramist skills in the nearest design school. His pieces were already mixing strong and eclectic influences borrowed from sources as diverse as XVIIIth century French Sèvres ceramics, American pop culture’s icons, contemporary art or the very early vibes of Hip Hop. Nonetheless, this did not prevent his ceramics...
Nonetheless, this did not prevent his ceramics teacher form telling him “You have no talent. Move to New-York and become a lawyer.” An advice he followed at first before realising he wanted to live for his passion and started giving classes in exchange for a free pottery studio. For three years, Jonathan produced his pieces himself from Monday through Sunday. It was during a trip to Peru that Jonathan found the perfect workshop to take production over, allowing him to work freely on creation. It was during this same trip that Jonathan fell in love with South-American textiles and launched his own line of cushions, throws and rugs. Fusing a sensibility for Scandinavian furniture with a penchant for the ethnic style of Peruvian craftsmanship, his creations quickly become the hottest hits in town. In 1998, Jonathan Adler opened his first shop in the heart of the trendy New York area of SoHo. To keep fuelling his shop with his unique vision, one thing led to another and Jonathan slowly opened his range to furniture until offering a complete lifestyle universe for the home. Also, an interior decorator, Jonathan designs restaurants, hotels and private homes, where one can always recognise his inimitable style, mixing pop colours, historical references and artistic currents.
